Listening to Others
 |
|
I have been a California-licensed
psychotherapist in private practice since 1993.
My formal education includes a
B.A. in American Studies from Mary Washington College
(1978) and an M.S. in Counseling from San Francisco
State University (1990). Undergraduate distinctions
included earning my degree with Final Honors and
initiation into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. I was
amongst a couple of recipients of the Distinguished
Achievement Award from the Department of Counseling
when I completed my Master's program. |
Post-graduate training included stints at two different
counseling programs in San Francisco: Fort Help Counseling
Center and Futures in Recovery. I gained licensure as
a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in the State of
California in 1992. Currently a member of the California
Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT),
I have also served as a volunteer in various capacities
for CAMFT's local chapter in the Santa Clara Valley.
I am no stranger to losses due to death,
divorce, low self-esteem, addiction or injury. Personal
experience
(See Bio page)
informs and influences my helping style. I see individuals,
couples and groups in my private practice,
enjoy mentoring colleagues just launching their careers,
and provide clinical consultation to individuals and
groups.
I listen to others with the intention of fostering an
inquiry and a process that will assist clients in alleviating
their discomfort or distress. I like to help clients:
- Gain access to their feelings;
- Clarify distorted beliefs or perceptions;
- Build self-esteem;
- Make healthier choices;
- Live with integrity; and
- Improve communication skills.
